It is important for candidates seeking admission into the various Federal and State universities in the country to know the cut off mark as released by JAMB.
It is true that institutions have insisted on placing their various institutional cut-off marks, which also varies according to courses. However, a good knowledge of the general cut-off marks as set by JAMB for institutions is massively beneficial.
First of all, it prepares the student to brace up and work hard during the UTME
What then is a JAMB Cut-off mark?
A Cut-off mark is the least score a student is expected to score to be admitted into a tertiary institute.
In other words, it is that mark which candidates are expected not to score below if they want to be admitted into any tertiary institution in Nigeria in a given year.
It varies for different institutions depending on the performance of the applicants into an institution for a particular year, as well as the number of applicants that year.
For example, it is possible for the cut off mark for an institution to go high if there is a teeming number of persons seeking to gain admission into the said institution.
An overall poor performance in UTME by applicants seeking admission into a tertiary institution is also capable of bringing down the cut off mark.
A student who aspires to secure admission into any tertiary institution must try to score up to the cut off mark. Gaining a higher score widens the chances of a candidate to secure admission into not just the institution of his choice, but his desired choice of study.
It is no longer news that most institutions place their general and departmental cut off marks at variance with that of JAMB.
Situations as the above make it paramount for any aspirant to research any institution of his choice so as to verify the institutional and departmental cut off mark as released by the institution of his choice.
